This was just a quick exercise to see if I could draw anything without howling in pain. And to get a little practice in with the new colored pencils.
Not my usual style. I hope that rather than rudimentary, this comes off as retro. I was inspired by some fashion drawings and some really retro merchandise in a bunch of cute stores in St. Charles (in/near St. Louis, MO). It didn't come out exactly as I'd envisioned...I have a hard time breaking away from precise line art. I wanted the lines to be a bit more open ended, with the coloring kind of fleshing out the shape, but I failed. =[ It was still fun to draw, though, and it gave my hand some exercise. I like the way the pattern on the dress turned out, and the color of the scarf. I've also confirmed that I am very bad at drawing hats. About 2 hours total: line work, coloring and digital cleanup. No fancy pencils...just my trusty .5 mechanical and my off-brand colored pencils. |
