A crazy black Studebaker. Studebaker's are my dad's particular favorite, so I made sure to take a photo when I spotted this one at the Verona Hometown Day's car show. I'm not a great fan myself, but they're definitely unique. What a nose. Gotta love the visor over the windshield, too.

I am told this is from 1951. =D

That's a 1951; Studebaker only had this "bullet-nose" design for two model years, 1950 and 1951. The 1950 models had the split windshield but the 1950 had the one-piece windshield. I can't really see the engine compartment too well from this angle, but it looks like there's a flathead six-cylinder engine in there, which would make this a Champion Sedan. The Commander had a V-8 engine.

Hurray, I learned something! It definitely says Champion on the side, so you're right about the engine.

I used to have a '51 Champion sedan, same model as this one. The car had originally been black, but whoever I bought it from had done a home paint job in some awful dull off-white color. I recently sold it to a close friend of mine, who is going to have it repainted the original black. I still have one Studebaker that I take to car shows myself, and sometimes drive to work. It's a Tiara Gold 1961 Lark VIII Cruiser, which does have a very fast original V8 engine in it. I'm a big fan of Studes, like your dad. I'd love to have both a 1958 Transtar truck and a 1953 Starlight Commander Coupe, if I could afford them.

Cool! I like the 1961 Lark. The 1953 Starlight Coupe is really interesting looking--Jay Leno's got one of those on his website!
